Positive energy can be transferred. The East Palo Alto Poets 2013 decided to share their creative interest with their peers. The hope is that their peers discover an inner gift and/or talent to share with the world.
A few of the EPA ICC members and their Director, Cherie Mz Chillin' Kabba are sending out a challenge. Calling all individuals, teams or small groups ... learn some or all of our smooth table moves and show us how HAPPY you are! Send all footage to cheriekabba@gmail.com and be featured in our Happy II video.
The project was created through Adobe Youth Voices for the Department of Education. The DOE is going to 9 major cities to do a National Youth Listening Tour and is using this video to open up the tour when it comes to SF/OAK. The song is about what can families, schools, and communities do to help the youths be more successful in school. 2020 Vision was created to support President Obama's initiative of having the most college graduates by the year 2020. The project was a collaboration between SF AYV sites, Oakland Peapod AYV, and Redwood City Peapod AYV.
The summer teen staff of the Boys & Girls of the Peninsula and the Sobrato Learning Academy used 5 Fridays of the summer program to build bonds and relationships with teens from 3 Bay area cities. After attending daily workshops in areas such as Culinary Arts, Leadership, Computer Technology, Music Studio, Fashion, Sportsmania and others, the youth gained an opportunity to attend 5 different field trips in California. The selective staff acquired the nickname "The Dream Team" because of the academic, technical and social skills needed to recruit and retain teen members. "We had the time of our lives."
Just three weeks ago, BGCP opened our doors to old and new members. Every once in a while, we are blessed to welcome new members to our BGCP Family. This multimedia project celebrates the addition of Mr. Jim Anderson to the BGCP Family. Our smiles are just a small way to express gratitude for the support we've received from our donors, partners and supporters. Please accept our smiles and come check us out at the Boys & Girls Club of the Peninsula!
"Love Me For My Ambition" @ BGCP in EPA! is a project dedicated to two members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula, Salvador & Bernardo. Cherie Kabba serves as one of many mentors to both of these youth. In 2012, they attended the Intel Computer Clubhouse Teen Summit in Boston, Massachusetts where Cherie was approaching her 5th year anniversary as an ICC Director. After being asked the question, "Why do you do what you do in the ICC", by Peter Fortenbaugh, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula, she wrote a spoken word piece that answered the question. The video project began more than a year ago by Salvador & Bernardo. It encompasses the 5 - 6 years Cherie Kabba spent serving youth, combining spoken word and technology daily in 3 Computer Clubhouses: Tucson, Arizona, South San Francisco and East Palo Alto.
H20 (Hype 2 Often) kicked off the YOY celebration with their high-energy dance, choreographed by Keontae Johnson.
The staff of the East Palo Alto's Boys & Girls Club of the Peninsula builds bonds and relationships with teens on a daily basis. A fun and innovative way to connect is remaking music videos. Despite the increasing crime rate in EPA, BGCP remains a safe haven for community youth. The diverse programs serve youth between the ages of 6 - 18. The Intel Computer Clubhouse is where the teen techies learn about digital media, digital and video cameras, software and much more.
BGCP Poets use powerful spoken word to inspire the audience.
Maribel has worked at BGCP for the past 20 years! She is the sweetest person you could ever meet. She understands collaborations, teamwork, and the importance of youth development. I love them like a sistas! Ruby is the true nucleus, without her, there would be no us. Maribel, Ruby, and I call ourselves the Golden Gyrls, the GGs! We aren't the traditional Golden Girls, but our bond is strong!
BGCP's Annual Women's Breakfast 2019 - Chillin da Conscious Poet opened the fundraiser with an original spoken-word piece.
Cherie Mz Chillin' Kabba, Technology Instructor at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula, kicked off the BGCP Women's Leadership Breakfast with a spoken word performance about why she loves the work that she does.
Welcome Jonathan Hooker to BGCP!
Hi, I'm Cherie Chillin Kabba, 35 years ago Quincy Jones gathered an amazing group of artists and musicians to create We Are the World, written by Lionel Richie and the late Michael Jackson. 11 weeks ago, the roles of BGCP staff members, volunteers, friends, and families turned topsy turvy. Immediately we were sheltered in place due to the Coronavirus, COVID 19 crisis and without missing a beat we began virtual programming for hundreds of youth and serving hot meals for families in our communities. Our re-enactment of the video has been a fun, harmonious distraction as we are committed to staying true to the work we do, develop youth. As the Tech Director for BGCP and Coordinator for The Clubhouse Network in Redwood City, CA, we, at The Forest hope that you enjoy this video and join us as we share the exact sentiments of the songwriters and original celebrity artists, but even more, we hope you be safe and be great! We are in this together.SHOW LESS
